MySpace kicks off 'Rock the Vote' contest for bands

Here's how it works: from now through August 14, bands with profiles on MySpace can install a tool on their pages that lets their fans register to vote. The first 25 bands to have 150 people register to vote through the tool will have their music featured in custom playlists on TouchTunes digital jukeboxes--you know, the kind you see in bars--and then the grand prize winner will get to be the opening act at Rock the Vote's "Ballot Bash" concert at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on August 25. Men buying sex constitute largest HIV infected group

Men who buy sex, most of them from the “mainstream” society, are the single most powerful driving force in Asia’s HIV epidemic and constitute the largest infected population group, according to a report by an independent body on HIV/AIDS.

Ten million Asians could be infected with HIV by 2020

About 10 million Asians are expected to be infected with HIV by 2020, an independent commission on AIDS in Asia warned Monday. Jamaicans more tolerant of persons living with HIV, AIDS

According to the 2008 National HIV and AIDS/STI Knowledge, Attitudes, Behaviour and Practices (KABP) Survey that was conducted across the island among 1,800 people between the ages of 15 and 49 between February and April this year, 83 per cent of the participants said they would be willing to care for a family member who became sick after being infected with the HIV virus.

Condom only solution to risky sexual behaviour

Switzerland's highest court has ruled that a man who unknowingly contaminated a woman with HIV can be held responsible for his actions. The Federal Court in Lausanne wrote that any person having occasional sex with another should use a condom to protect the other person. Otherwise they should expect to be accused of causing seriously bodily harm through negligence if the occasional partner is diagnosed with the Aids-causing virus.

STDs doubled in Britain among middle-aged

In Britain, the rate of sexually transmitted diseases was highest among women ages 45 to 54, but highest among men age 55 to 60, researchers said. In total, 4,445 sexually transmitted disease episodes were identified among people ages 45 and older during that time. Most were straight men and women.

A Gay Media Empire Takes Shape
Paul Colichman and a business partner are building a media conglomerate around Here, television's only premium gay cable network. They recently paid $6.5 million to buy the Advocate, a news magazine, Out, a fashion monthly, and other sister publications. Colichman already owns gay entertainment portal GayWired.com and plans to expand the online presence of his new print publications. Average Age Of TV Viewers Hits 50
For the first time, the broadcasts network's median age is outside of the vaunted 18-49 demo. According to a study released by Magna Global, the average viewer of the five broadcast nets' last season, not including delayed DVR viewers, was 50. ABC, NBC and Fox continue to grow older, while CBS--the oldest-skewing network--has remained fairly steady. "With traditional television no longer necessarily the first screen for the younger set, the ages of the broadcast networks keep rising," says Magna researcher Steve Sternberg.
